I didn't realize initially that there is not an external crossover for this component set so you loose some of those advantages. Instead there is a passive filter that cuts off low frequencies to the tweeter, but this means the woofer gets the full frequency range. I think there is also a passive filter attached to the woofer but I'm not exactly sure, it probably filters out the super high frequencies. This does achieve the "open and smooth" design I suppose but it makes the woofer less efficient than if there were a separate crossover. Still, bass is decent for such a small woofer, build quality is good, the tweeters perform well, and were pretty easy to install, I just drilled a whole a few inches above the woofer in the panel and glued it down, looks good. Overall I would recommend, but if I were going to do it over I would have chosen a set with an external... Read more 0 of 1 people found the following review helpful:  passive crossovers / filters, This review is from: Pioneer TS-A1304C A-Series 5 1/4" Components 300 Watts (Electronics) If you look on the 12Volt website - [...] - you can find numerous articles / diagrams / parts that can help you carve up the frequencies that you want to send to different speaker types.One of the problems with doing what you want with passives is that if you block the highs from the woofer and the tweeter is connected to the woofer ... well then the tweeter gets nothing. So you have to split the signal and block highs from the woofer and block lows from the tweeter ... and what does that do to your impedance ? ( 2 Ohm, 4 Ohm, 8 Ohm ???? ) Woofers are generally able to handle the highs better than a tweeter can handle the lows which is why you have what you do. |
